From The President by Dean Kirby
I am happy to take on the role as president of the Historical Engine Society. As I said at the Membership meeting during the elections, there would be no way I could do this without the help and dedication from Mike, Marc and Sandy and a few other members and directors. I do want to make something clear, however. At no time during any meeting or event will I, nor will I expect anyone else to tolerate disruptive behavior from anyone. This includes but is not limited to screaming matches, cussing, threatening remarks or slander! This type of behavior does absolutely no good for our organization and does only damage. Over the past four years I have spoken to many members, some who still come around and others who have decided that they were not interested in subjecting themselves to this bad behavior and quite frankly, people are tired of it. I have seen several new members show up at their first meeting never to show up again. If anyone becomes out of control with this type of behavior, they will be asked to leave immediately! If this offends you, that’s your problem! Does this seem a bit curt, it’s supposed to be! This organization is making some great headway with many good people and I will not stand by and watch these good people get discouraged and leave because of inexcusable actions from others. Something we need to keep in mind. This annual show is not our show! What? That’s right! We are invited guests to participate in an annual antique power exhibition. We choose to call it the 38th, 39th or 40th annual show. If the Historical Engine Society no longer existed, the Geauga County Historical Society would still have this event. Would things be different? Sure! But there would still be an event. HES has existed since 1970. GCHS has been having this event since the 1960’s. This is no different than Lake Farmpark having their Fall Harvest and inviting HES to participate. The Historical Engine Society does not own or control Century Village Museum. It is my suggestion that if you would like a say in what happens at Century Village, than you should join the Geauga County Historical Society and get involved. I have been guilty of bad behavior myself and will take my own advice and conduct myself in a more professional manner as well.
On a more positive note, I feel 2010 will be a great show season. I can’t wait to see everyone again!
Time Change for Meetings
It was decided to change the starting time of the membership and directors meetings. The membership meetings will now begin at 7:30PM and the directors meetings at 7:00PM. This change will take effect immediately.

Christmas Party Report by Sandy Paterek
We had a great time at the Christmas Party, lots of friends, food, and the Christmas spirit. Approximately 60 people attended, the weather cooperated although it was a chilly day. Members did some story swapping, visited with those we do not see very often and ate a wonderful variety of food. We had a 50/50 raffle won by Pat Brockway, and a table raffle of miscellaneous items. We hope to see you next year.
Membership Cards
The 2010 membership cards will be mailed out within the next few weeks. This is your gate pass to the 40th Antique Power Exhibition, so make sure it does not get misplaced.
2010 Raffle
The 2010 raffle tractor has been purchased and restoration is currently underway. This year’s tractor is another 1955 Massey Ferguson TO-35, a few months newer than last year. Owen Gingerich has once again donated the use of his shop for the project. As said in the last newsletter, please contact David Metcalf at (440) 667-9860 for information on how you can help with this project.
